EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: 

  • Lead and motivate Team climbers throughout Team practice
  • Planning and attending appropriate climbing competitions with Team climbers, including travel as needed
  • Serve as an on-duty climbing wall instructor
  • Develop ideas for systematic curriculums and share these with the Head Coach
  • Quantifying results and customizing training for athlete improvement
  • Build and maintain positive ethos in the Team environment
  • Regular communication with other coaches and parents
  • Proactive attitude towards general gym duties, as assigned, (front desk, cleaning, orientation)
  • Deliver pre-designed and private training workouts to athletes while adhering to Threshold Team practice policies
  • Build and maintain a highly engaged member base
  • Connect and reconnect with athletes and parents/guardians to encourage continued Team practice attendance and support athletes’ growth
  • Promote Threshold memberships and services live Threshold Development and Competitive Teams
  • Educate athletes on correct technique while providing beta during practice and as appropriate for their growth in the sport. This includes modifying specific exercises to accommodate the various skill levels on team
  • Attend weekly and monthly meetings with management
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the gym: before, after, and in-between practice, including organization and storage of ropes, belay devices, and any other equipment used in a practice setting
  • Comply with the Threshold Team Practice Protocol
  • Perform any other duties as directed by management

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Extensive climbing experience required. Annual Safe Sport Training and Certification; Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) certified through the Climbing Wall Association (CWA) preferred; Current enrollment in or completion of coursework in kinesiology, exercise science, athletic training, fitness, or a related field preferred. Ability to acquire and maintain a USA Climbing Coach Certification; Prior experience working as a climbing coach is preferred; Professional route-setting experience strongly preferred; Proficiency and knowledgeable in bouldering, auto-belay, top rope, and lead climbing/belaying; Current CPR/AED certification required (or a willingness to acquire such certification prior to teaching at Threshold); Excellent oral/digital communication skills; Professionalism, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills; Knowledge of employment, safety, and merchandise handling procedures.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS: To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, an employee must be able to perform the following: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, talking, hearing/listening and repetitive motion.

Heavy Work: Lifting up to 50 lbs regularly. 

Work Environment: Indoor climate controlled environment.
