The University of North Texas System is a public university system serving over 49,000 students across the Dallas–Fort Worth region. Founded in 1999, the system comprises the University of North Texas flagship institution in Denton and Frisco, which serves nearly 47,000 students as a Tier One research university; UNT Dallas, the fastest-growing public university in Texas with enrollment approaching 4,000 students; and UNT Health Fort Worth, an academic medical center with more than 2,400 students. The system employs more than 14,000 people and awards nearly 12,000 degrees annually.
The system is designated as a Hispanic- and Minority-Serving Institution and positions itself as providing affordable pathways to social mobility and economic opportunity through higher education and research. Its alumni network spans 480,000 graduates, with 324,000 living and working in the Dallas–Fort Worth region. The system operates as the only university system based exclusively in the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area.
